About Jen Keller: The Cold Hard Facts
Name:
I think you got that part already!
Home: Just north of Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Occupation: Search engine optimization specialist and entrepreneur
Hobbies: Masters' swimming, coaching my three sons and
reading (more like "devouring") books. Most recent reads: "The Long Tail -- Why
The Future of Business Is Selling Less of More", "Don't Make Me Think -- A
Common Sense Approach to Web Usability" & Maurice Sendak's kid classic, "Where
The Wild Things Are".
Ivy League Basketball Player + Direct Marketer = Rare Combo
I graduated with honors from Princeton University with a degree in social
psychology, although for the number of hours I played varsity basketball, I
could claim a degree in that sport too. I've also got a Masters of Business
Administration from University of California at Berkeley, with an emphasis
in marketing.
I cut my teeth as a database / direct marketer for a Fortune 100 company –
learning the fine art of conversion one direct mail piece at a time. We sold
“membership services” and I figure if you can get people to buy accidental death
& dismemberment insurance via the mail, you pretty much have the direct
marketing basics nailed!
Dot Com Boom and Bust
The mid-1990s found me living the “dot.com dream” in the San Francisco Bay Area working for a small start-up called Quokka Sports. Four years and countless websites later (including Golf.com, MotoGrandPrix.com, CART.com, AmericasCup.org, FinalFour.net and NBColympics.com), I was standing on the street corner clutching my last paycheck and a fistful of worthless stock options. It wasn’t all bad, I learned more in those four years, than many learn in four decades. The biggest lesson of all: Conversion Is King!
Free Agent And Lovin' Life!
Determined not to repeat the sins of the “dot bomb era”, I
put out my shingle and the rest, as they say, is history.
As an internet marketing consultant I've worked with a range of clients, from
well-known technology companies, market-leading private companies and countless
scrappy start-ups. Oh and I also did some work for the San Francisco 49ers –
which was difficult given my Packer allegiance! My results provide a more
complete list of my clients and what I have done for them.
My Family
On a personal note, I have three rambunctious little boys almost teenage boys who, in addition to testing my management skills, are my light and my joy.
